Early Life

Mario Mims was born on the 19th of May, 1981, in Memphis, Tennessee, United States and was raised in an environment known for notorious crimes, so he was exposed to such Life from an early age.

Yo Gotti was born into a middle-class family. His father was an instructor in a gym from Zimbabwe, while his mother comes from South Africa. Not much is known about his educational background. He was raised in a strict family and adhered to Christian doctrines.

When Mario started 2nd grade, the police raided their house and his parents, as well as other family members, were taken into custody. Mario was forced to take care of the family, which led him to start hustling in the streets.

In the following years, he moved into music and started rapping at the age of 14 along with his friends around Memphis in the late 1990s. He released his debut Gangsta style Underground cassette titled “Youngsta On A Bring Up’ “Lil Yo” on the “Crime Lordz Records” label in the year 1996.

“Da Dope Games 2 Da Rap Game’ was the next released album of his Trap Gangsta hip-hop genre as well as ‘Self-Explanatory’ and ‘Block Burning, Vol. 1’ (2000 2001, 2000 and 2002) under the Inevitable Entertainment label.

After being signed by the TVT record label, he released the fourth album of his studio titled “Life” in 2003, with the first single “Dirty Southern Soldiers” (a duet featuring Lil John). Then, his track entitled ‘Full Time’ appeared in his popular film, Hustle and the Flow soundtrack in 2005.

The following year, he released his fifth album titled “Back 2 Da basics’, in the year 2006 on the same label. The album was ranked 3rd at the top of the US Rap charts.

In the month of July 2017, Yo Gotti released 22 mixtapes in March 2006. His Cocaine Muzik mixtapes received a huge fan base with his “Cocaine Muzik 2” (2009) after securing 11th place on the US Rap charts.

Collective Music Group, formerly known as Cocaine Muzik Group, is a record label founded in the year 2000 by Yo Gotti, who is presently also the President and CEO of the business.

Yo Gotti released his mixtapes between 2014 and 2017 under the CMG record label. Some of them are “The Return,” “2 Federal’ Chapter One White Friday (CM 9)’ etc.

The album he released was called ‘The Art of Hustle’ in 2016 through Epic Records and CMG, and it reached 4th position on the Billboard 200 charts and 1st place at the top of the US Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums in 2016.

The album sold more than 45 thousand copies within the first week of release in the US. The debut single “Down in the DM’ reached 13th on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Then, he was featured in three tracks from Meghan Trainor’s album called “Thank You. The song ‘No’ climbed to 5th place on the US Billboard Hot 100, and the track “Me Too” climbed to 20th place on US Charts of Billboards.

In 2017, he released two mixtapes, ‘Gotti Made-It (with Mike Will Made-It) and ‘Heartless-Y.’

In his professional career, he has worked with many hip-hop artists, including Niki Minaj Slim Thug, DJ Drama, Nelly, Birdman, Jim Jones, to create strong hip-hop music.

Mario was married to Lakeisha and was blessed with three children; two daughters and one son. The couple later separated their lives. According to sources, it is believed that their children are currently living with their father.
