Ryan Garcia, nicknamed ‘The flash,’ is an American professional boxer who was born on August 8, 1998 in Victorville, California, USA. As of 2021, he held the WBC Interim Lightweight title from January to May.

He was ranked as the world’s third-best active Lightweight on October 2021 by The Ring Magazine and The Transitional Boxing Ranking Board.

Moreso, he had been named the fifth-best active Lightweight by ESPN and seventh by BoxRec in the same year.

Early Life

On August 8, 1998, Ryan Garcia was born in Victorville, California, USA, to Henry Garcia and Lisa Garcia. He is of Mexican descent, but he grew up in the US.

Ryan grew up with his four sisters and a brother named Sean, who is also a boxer. Garcia is close to his father, who was once a boxer.

His father trained him, and soon he became an amateur boxer. He entered into several competitions as a teenager, and this served as the starting point of his boxing career.

Career

Garcia started as an amateur boxer at the age of 15. He won the Silver medal for the Under 17 level at the 2014 USA Junior National Championships, which was held at The Grand Sierra Resort, Reno.

He also entered for under 19 2015 USA Youth National Championship and came out as the quarter-finalist. In 2016, he won the gold medal at the 2016 USA Youth National Championship, held at The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino Reno.
