When he was working as a volunteer in the Red cross, he observed thousands of missing children in Nigeria kept in internally displaced camps (IDCs) and other camps. To help identify and match all these people, Oluwatomi Solanke built WhoSpottedMe.
This crowdsourced web-based application used Facial Recognition Technology and Artificial Intelligence to help find missing people. He was so excited about it because it had covered close to 12 states in Nigeria, of which Don Jazzy was among the investors.

In 2015, Oluwatomi Solanke launched another business called Dropbuddies, a peer-to-peer delivery business, and this was when he got his first grant.
The question was, “what happened?” Well, Solanke found logistics a tricky business with lots of problems. He stopped along the line too. This continued in his other found business before Trove came alive in 2018.
On the other hand, Trove wasn’t something he was thinking about but came to existence out of interest in investing in stocks, his works on Forex and crypto trading.
Technically, Trove started as a Joke in quotes in an Amala joint in Lagos, Nigeria. They started as four founders, two active in Nigeria while the other two were resident in the United States.
Trove started at a very tiny joint before moving into a larger space. At some point, Oluwatomi, Solanke applied to some random offers online, not taking it seriously but was called upon for a chat with his team.
That was when Trove started making sense to him. Trove aims to allow Nigerians (and soon Africans) to seamlessly participate in the global economy and own a piece of over 10,000 of the most valuable companies of the world. Creating a world of borderless investing remains its vision.
Trove grew to face some challenges but came out successfully, with funding from a lot of space. Trove currently has over 10,000 users, started as four co-founders but getting over 20 at this point.
Trove was able to gap other businesses in the same space because it’s a user-centric business, a people-focused business, and a human business. That is to say, Oluwatomi Solanke and his other co-founders have time to communicate with their users through direct contact.
Currently, Oluwatomi Solanke is the CEO and Co-founder of Trove, a startup that helps democratize access to local and international stocks and equities for Nigerians.
