Mohammad Ismail Sherif, Black Sherif, is a hip-hop artist from Ghana who also plays music and composes.

He is from Ghana’s Ashanti Region and was born and raised in Konongo “Zongo” by his parents Mr Frimpong, an Asante Muslim convert, and Ante Marie (or Ante Mariama), a Muslim mother.

After releasing his first and second number-one singles, Black Sherif has quickly surpassed all previous Kumerica artists.

The age of Ghanaian artist Black Sherif has been up for debate ever since he gained notoriety.

Black Sherif received his primary and secondary schooling at Konogo, Ashanti Region.

Fast-rising talent, Black Sherif began his musical career as a dancer before switching to music in secondary school.

Black Sherif debuted his career in 2019 by uploading the song “Cry for Me” to YouTube. His debut song “Money” and a music video were both released on May 25, 2020.

His single “First Sermon” was released in May 2021, further extending his fan base. “Second Sermon,” the song’s follow-up, was released in July and featured Burna Boy, another African performer. 

With his track “Kwaku the Traveller,” which peaked at No. 1 on the charts in Ghana and Nigeria and later became his most well-known song, Black Sherif made his debut in March 2022. The singles “45” and “Soja” were used as promotions for his October release of The Villain I Never Was.

A case for alleged breach of contract was brought against Black Sherif on April 11, 2022, following the signing of a contract with Empire Shadrach Agyei Owusu, the CEO of Waynes Chavis Consult, who was requesting the court to prohibit Black Sherif from performing at events without his authorization. The musician sought an injunction from the Accra High Court’s Commercial Division to prevent him from performing any songs that were under his prior management, but it was denied.
